Quarrying and Mineral Extraction
Our staff have built up a particular expertise in the preparation of FRAs for quarry developments. We have worked with all of the major aggregate companies to prepare assessments for the development and restoration phases of quarries.
The majority of sites that we have worked on have been for sand and gravel extraction. Although these are classed as "Water Compatible" in PPS25, they are inevitably located in flood sensitive areas. It is therefore essential to refine the development phases in order to minimise the flood impacts and ensure compliance with PPS25.
Our services have included the design and assessment of soil storage bunds, often requiring the use of hydraulic models, runoff computations as well as wider hydrological impacts. We also undertake monitoring of flows and levels both in support of FRAs and for general quarry management.
