Hydro-Logic Awarded Framework Contract by the Environment Agency

Hydro-Logic has been appointed by the Environment Agency to provide hydrometric training services on a two-year framework contract. This is the third time we have successfully tendered for the bespoke range of courses.

Hydrometric training at Knightsford BridgeHydrometric data is critical to the delivery of the Environment Agency's wide range of environmental management duties such as flooding and monitoring, drought, water quality and fisheries. ADCP training at Knightsford BridgeThrough the development and delivery of these courses, Hydro-Logic can assist the Environment Agency in maintaining and improving the accuracy and reliability of hydrometric monitoring across England and Wales.

The latest contract sees the addition of two new courses. Stage-discharge relationships are the topic for the first of the two five-day courses in March 2007. Providing information and guidance on the development of flow records at permanent river gauging stations, this course has a direct link the Environment Agency's ability to accurately monitor river flow. The introduction of this course follows a successful pilot in October and November 2006.

'Mathematics for hydrologists' and 'Statistics for hydrologists'  are independent, one-day courses that will be run consecutively. Both courses are expected to be available from April. The aim is to provide Environment Agency staff with the necessary skills to produce and present statistics relating to all aspects of hydrology and hydrometry. The probability of occurrence of extreme flood or drought events and the estimation of uncertainties relating to hydrometric measurements are of  particular importance.

Training Manager, Chris Nugent, said:

"We have provided training to the Environment Agency for over ten years and are proud to help improve the quality and performance of the nation's hydrometric network."
