Our clients include landscape architects, academic institutions and local authorities and projects range from boating lakes to sports centres.

Boating lakes

Flow and level monitoring as part of a hydrological analysis and FRA at Millfield SchoolHydro-Logic is currently carrying out flow and water level monitoring of a watercourse adjacent to the site of a proposed boating lake for Millfield School in Somerset. This will inform an analysis of the water resources available to supply the lake and a Flood Risk Assessment. We have undertaken a preliminary hydrological assessment of the site, scoped and installed the continuous monitoring equipment (including Land Drainage Consent

Golf courses

Runoff calculations and advice on mitigation for Liverpool golf courseHydro-Logic was appointed to undertake a Flood Risk Assessment (FRA) for the re-landscaping of a golf course in Stapleford, Essex.  Proposals involved the construction of a reservoir and the creation of embankments for the practice course. As part of the FRA we undertook calculations of runoff and recommended outline designs of the reservoir outfall and runoff mitigation. Liaison was necessary with English Nature, in view of the proximity to a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) as well as the Environment Agency.

Public Amenity Areas

Hydro-Logic undertook a Flood Risk Assessment for a proposed public amenity area and allotments at Hythe Park, on the edge of the Thames floodplain. We worked closely with the Environment Agency and landscape architects to alter the proposed landscaping of the site to ensure compliance with PPS25. This included an assessment of floodplain flow paths, and calculations of level for level floodplain storage.

Racecourses

Hydro-Logic undertook a reconnaissance study for Huntingdon racecourse (Cambridgeshire) to provide advice on the likely impact of heavy rainfall and flooding on the racing programme.  Correlations were established between key hydrological parameters and days when racing was abandoned due to wet weather.  Subsequently, reconnaissance level FRAs have been undertaken for the racecourse in connection with individual developments around the course.

Sports Complexes

FRA to support a planning application for the redevelopment of Liverpool sports centreHydro-Logic has recently completed a FRA as part of a planning application for a large multipurpose sports complex and golf course in Liverpool. Surface water issues relating to the new buildings, car parks and sports pitches were investigated, and mitigation suggested to minimise runoff. The golf course entails re-landscaping with internal drainage to a fishing lake. Runoff from the surrounding embankment was quantified and detention basins incorporated into the design to reduce risk of flooding to surrounding properties.
