Automated Lone Worker System wins Best Innovative Idea award
Hydro-Logic is part of the Health and Safety Partnership Alliance - set up to improve the profile of health and safety on Dwr Cymru Welsh Water (DCWW) projects.

The partnership is a refreshing approach to joint management of health and safety in a complex working environment and features standardised data collection, cross-auditing, email notifications and regular meetings for information exchange.

Hydro-Logic has operated a comprehensive health and safety system for many years and we recently integrated our quality, health and safety and environmental management systems with assistance from a number of external consultancies. Membership of the Alliance has brought a number of significant benefits including an opportunity to train internal auditors to formal BSI standards.

During the DCWW Occupational Health and Safety Conference in March 2008 we were delighted to receive the new Best Innovative Idea award for our automated Lone Worker System presented to our Data Solutions Director, John Powell, by Nigel Annett, Managing Director of DCWW.

The system had been greatly enhanced over the preceding year and features an escalating email notification in the case of a possible emergency and a flashing beacon (visible both next to the lone worker control desk and via a browser page on our intranet).

It allowed us to tighten our procedures at very little extra cost, save on the human resources needed to manage the system whilst also significantly improving safety. With considerable external interest in the system, the full submission for the award (including illustrations) is available here.
