Hydro-Logic Services Help Much Wenlock Residents Sleep Easier

01/05/2014

With the help of The Environment Agency and Shropshire County Council, the Much Wenlock Flood Action Group have taken matters into their own hands when it comes to Flood Warning.

The Flood Group approached Hydro-Logic Services to ask for help and advice on the best way to deploy an early warning system in the town to prevent the kind of flooding that more than 60 homes experienced in 2007. HLS designed a system, upon which the flood group appealed to the EA and Shropshire CC for support and funding. As a result, all three stakeholders contributed to the cost of equipment, installation, and ongoing maintenance, which includes Timeview data hosting and alarming. Members of the flood group will now receive texts and emails when predetermined threshold levels are reached, giving them ample warning to take appropriate action.

HLS installed a level monitor and also a rain gauge in the town, which will allow residents to assess the rainfall characteristics and any resultant flooding issues. Data from both sites is uploaded daily to the Isodaq Timeview Telemetry website(www.timeview2.net), which the Flood Group have access to, but will check in and alarm instantly once a threshold is reached.

Local interest is high with BBC News Shropshire covering it as well as local radio and press. Shropshire Star
