Hydro-Logic Services Deliver Hydrometry Training in Tanzania

04/03/2015

Hydro-Logic Services have recently been undertaking a range of projects throughout Africa. The latest of these saw Martin Dibley packing the sun block and heading to Tanzania for a 7 day training course incorporating a range of hydrometric equipment including a StreamPro ADCP.

The wider project is assessing the feasibility of a large scale irrigation scheme for which water resource availability and flooding risks are key components. HLS were brought in to provide specialist hydrometric training on river flow monitoring equipment paired with both rainfall and weather station parameters. Flow monitoring incorporated a Valeport 002 rotating element current meter, a TRDi StreamPro ADCP and a radar device to set up to provide a level / stage-discharge monitoring site.

A mixture of project engineers and local water board staff were trained on the equipment application and some of the underlying best practice and scientific principles.

The work is being funded by USAID and incorporates a wide range of subject experts.

As Martin readjusts to the UK climate, Stewart Chid and Julian Parkin continue work on further African projects in Malawi and Botswanna.
