Hydro-Logic Services install transit-time pipe flow system for Scottish Power

03/09/2012

Hydro-Logic Services have recently installed a flow monitoring system for Scottish Power to monitor the compensation flow from Tongland Reservoir in South-West Scotland, to aid with compliance regulations. The project consisted on installing a multi-path, clamp-on Sarasota 200 flowmeter from ThermoFisher to the compensation outflow pipe at the reservoir head. The technology operates on the transit time method using pairs of transducers mounted to the perimeter of the pipe. From the dimensions of the pipe a volumetric flow rate can be calculated.

Hydro-Logic Services won this work due to our unique position in offering the client both on-site and remote access to the data collected from this system, via our Timeview Telemetry web-based system. The clamp-on ultrasonic meter also proved attractive due to the low installation costs compared to conventional Magflo type pipe flow meters.

Hydro-Logic Services currently undertake a number of other projects for Scottish Power ranging from level and flow monitoring to the undertaking of regular spot flow gauging work to ensure discharge regulations are adhered to.
