Urban runoff monitoring for Exeter City Council

02/11/2011

High flow calibration gauging with rotating element current meterHydro- Logic Services southwest team were commissioned to design, install and calibrate a detailed monitoring network within a small urban catchment in Exeter. Detailed flow and rainfall data was required to test and calibrate an urban model to test its performance in high flow events with real data collected from the catchment.

Designed to be undertaken across the winter months in early 2012 the project was extended due to the unseasonably dry weather. Once order was restored to the British weather Hydro-Logic Services team were on hand to target a range of calibration gaugings. Warning alarms were configured for rainfall intensity and water level thresholds allowing calibration visits to be targeted effectively in the flashy catchment.

Five stage discharge sites were developed with our in house rating software. This data was supplemented by a pipe flow device and 10 telemetered raingauges. A range of outputs were then produced for easy integration by the end user including rainfall intensity’s and a range of flow figures.

Rapid deployment was enabled through our range of hire stock and key sites have been retained throughout 2012 allowing useful data through one of the wettest summers on record.  For more information on this or similar services offered by Hydro-Logic Services, please contact Martin Dibley on 01884 841473 or mdibley@hydro-logic.co.uk
