Alastair Morriss Delivers Hydraulic Modelling Seminar to Stirling University & SEPA MSc Students

Hydro-Logic Services Senior Scientist, Alastair Morriss, was invited to deliver a seminar to MSc students studying River Basin Management at Stirling University on the 9th November. A 1 hour lecture on the differences between and appropriate application of 1D, 2D and 3D hydraulic modelling techniques was given followed by a quick lesson in basic 1D ISIS model construction in a subsequent 2 hour practical session. Students, several of whom are studying via SEPA's Flood Risk Science programme, gained from Alastair's professional experience of hydraulic modelling studies ranging from flood forecasting model development to river and wetland rehabilitation. Alastair highlighted the use of hydraulic modelling in a commerical environment and discussed theoretical uncertainty and the use of model outputs as an aid to decision making in river management.
